"My son Cian joined the Lil Dragon's Taekwon-do class at B.M.A.F. in September, 2004.  he was a quiet, timid little boy who found it hard to mix with other children his own age.  Now, two years later, his next grading will be for his green belt, his confidence in himself has grown enormously, and he's a lot more outgoing and chatty.  Sarah and Conor have had a big part to play in the changes in Cian.  They are so encouraging of the children, they make learning lots of fun and build everyone's self-esteem.

Earlier this year, I joined the morning Kickboxing Class and wow!!  I love it!!  If I had the time I would go to classes 5 times a week.  Morning classes are great for anyone who spends their evenings ferrying children about.  I was seriously unfit when I joined but after only a few short months there's a fantastic difference in me.  I've found an exercise I love to do.  that says a lot coming from someone who doesn't even like walking.  The classes are so diverse and interesting.  You leave after class feeling euphoric and that you've achieved something worthwhile.  And of course I've made lots of new friends.  Then my husband caught the bug and he has joined the Adult Taekwon-do class.  Now our friends are starting to call us the "Fit Family".

In my my mind, Banner Martial Arts & Fitness is the best martial arts school ever opened in Ennis. The premises is spotlessly clean, extremely professionally run.  On entering, you are always met with a friendly smile and greeting from Sarah, Conor and Doug.  being members of such a fabulous establishment has made a huge difference to our family.  Thank you all.!

Claire O'Reilly (mother, wife, & student)

"When Emma started Taekwon-do two years ago she had very fancy footwork as she used to do Irish Dancing.  Pointing this out to her, she practised very hard to lose the "Flatley Feet".  With each grading, she always tries to perfect whatever points are on the comment card.  Emma practices her patterns everyday, a routine that now extends to her music as well.  Taekwon-do has taught Emma to discipline herself with regards to her free time.  She'll practice a piece of music until she's satisfied she's done her best.  I'd like to Thank You both for asking Emma to be a Team Leader.  She loves the extra responsibility that goes with this.  Emma's ambition is to be a Primary School Teacher, but having been a Team Leader, she also now wants to be a Taekwon-do Teacher.  Thank you for giving her the confidence to think she could achieve this.  Emma is growing up to be a young girl that likes extra responsibility, feels confident enough to be able to take it on, a quality I believe she has learned from doing Taekwon-do, and from her instructors."

-Marian Broderick (mother of Junior student and Junior Team Leader)

“I have been attending the Banner Martial Arts and Fitness (BMAF) centre for the past year for Kickboxing classes.  I have found, in this time, the classes to be professionally run and the atmosphere to be warm and friendly.  The classes were challenging and each week there was a variety of exercises to do, which kept the classes interesting to all.  Sparring sessions, when conducted, were done in a controlled and well-organised manner.

Being a sports chiropractor and having the joy of working at the 2000 Sydney Olympics treating athletes in the village and with sporting teams such as the Clare Senior Men Hurlers, it was nice to have someone like Connor and Sarah help me develop my fitness and challenge me to find new boundaries within myself over the past year.

I would recommend BMAF to anyone that was interested in self defence, or to anyone that was interested in a well-organised sport that can improve your fitness levels and your flexibility.

"Jack has finally found a sport he really enjoys.  His stamina is increasing and the constant encouragement (both written & verbal) from you helps greatly.  His sister is now going to join class and his brother now realises it is quite a physical class and summer camp"

-Kevin Malone, father of Junior

“Excellent!  Clear boundaries.  Good discipline & respect.  Great exercise / co-ordination practice.  Exceptional Admin. / organization.”

-Pearl O’Shea, mother of Lil’ Dragon

"I am very happy with the school and the many changes that you have made along the way.  I was a bit concerned earlier at the speed in which members were progressing from one grade to the next, but I am pleased to note that this no longer seems to be the case.  Darragh is happy in his class and I do believe that it has helped his confidence.  The little things are very important to children, and I think it's marvellous when Darragh (and I'm sure lots of others) receive "well done" cards in the post.  Also the the themed parties for attendance are an excellent idea and great for the kids.  So, all in all, WELL DONE.  Keep up the good work, and best of luck with your EXCELLENT SCHOOL."

-Catherine Ryan, mother of Tiny Tiger (recently graduated to Junior)

"Overall Ryan loves attending classes and I feel that they have been both a great learning and fun experience for him.  Also very positive in building self-confidence"

-Nicola Crabb, mother of Tiny Tiger

"Im pretty new to the B.M.A.F center and Taekwon-do. However in the few weeks that I have been a member of B.M.A.F I have learnt a lot, both about myself and taekwon-do. I have gained some confidence in my ability to defend myself and I know that with determination and perseverance (and the five tenants!) I will continue to learn and gain in confidence.

I first heard of B.M.A.F in the Clare Champion by chance, because I don't usually read it! I always had a passing interest in martial arts but their was never a facility such as yours nearby that I had heard of. The B.M.A.F facilities are great, better than I imagined.

I found that the way taekwon-do is taught in B.M.A.F really suited me personally, as I was quite nervous about beginning the martial art. You both have a great way of clearly explaining or correcting a technique to someone and I really felt welcome when I first arrived and have ever since. I also found that all of the other members of B.M.A.F that I have met so far have been extremely nice and helpful to me, especially those that are more expierienced than me. They didnt have to help me, they could have concentrated on their own training, but they went out of their way to help me and I am really appreciative to them for that.

I have no problem with you using my name or words in your website or brochures. Thank you both for teaching me so far and I hope to learn a lot from you in the future."

Brien Crean (adult Student)

"We are more than happy with the quality and professionalism of B.M.A.F.

We especially like the discipline and ethos behind Taekwon-do, not just the physical benefits of it.  Taekwon-do has helped Oisín in his level of concentration and focus which his school teacher has also noticed.  Thank you for running such a good Academy.

-Sinead Fisher & Cathal MacCroistáil, parents of Tiny Tiger

“I have found that since I’ve taken up the classes, I have a lot more confidence in myself.  I love it.  It can be tough going at times, but I’m going to stick with it and achieve my black belt.  I’d love to do it 3 or 4 times a week.  I loved the competition in the Auburn Lodge, which was a lot of fun.  I find it to be very professional and very well run.  Thanks very much Connor and Sarah.”

-Cian McCormick, age 16

“There doesn’t seem to be any favouritism.

Good feeling and morale between students.

Encouragement & criticism are equally given.

I’ve developed a great passion for the sport.  It’s extremely demanding physically, mentally, emotionally, but most of all it gives me a feeling of fulfilment and confidence and the need to be ‘the best’ in my ability.”

-Katie Campbell, age 28

"My Daughter has gained a huge amount of self-control and discipline by attending her classes at the Auburn Lodge.  She is also overcoming her nerves by competing in gradings.  She has also become more helpful at home and understanding of her sister."

-Marie O'Brien, mother of Tiny Tiger

"I have to say that i notice a difference in my son Dylan since he has started the Taekwon-do classes, his co-ordination has improved immensely and also his concentration is better. Dylan looks forward to the class every week.. He has always liked the Martial Arts films and asked me if he could do something, so i heard from a friend that there was a class in the Crescent school and decided to send him.. I also like the idea that you keep us up to date via email.."

Lisa McCoy (parent of Tiny Tiger)

"I have noticed a real difference in Jimmy (my son) since he began Taekwon-do.  He is more co-ordinated physically, more confident in himself, and much more willing to attempt new activities.  At school he is able to concentrate much better in the classroom, and in the playground his gross motor skills have really improved.

Myself, I feel happier with myself.  I am stronger physically and my muscles are beginning to tone up nicely, especially arms and legs.  I have found that Kickboxing is a great way to de-stress and a fantastic outlet for tension and frustration!"

-Frances Rogan (mother & adult student)

"Liam loves going to his Taekwon-do classes and never wants to miss a class.  He really enjoys coming home and showing us the new moves he has learned.  I would have no hesitation recommending the Banner Martial Arts & Fitness school to any parents looking for a well-run school that will give their children both confidence & respect for the rest of their lives."

-Louise Halpin (mother)

"I joined Taekwon-do as I had been advised of the benefits of practicing a martial art.  I am in my final year of my masters degree in Psychotherapy.  With my course a lot of personal development is undertaken and at the end of 2nd year my course leaders suggested that I take up a martial art as a way to further my personal development by safely releasing some anger energy.

I have found my training very beneficial to this end, and find myself becoming more "into" Taekwon-do".

"Taekwon-do has given my son the confidence to do things in front of crowds in public.  It has developed in him the ability to apply himself when needed, i.e: belt testings."

-Brendan O'Daly (father)

"Taekwon-do is fun.  My confidence has grown.  I'm not scared to do things outside of Taekwon-do, like join in other sports."

-Killian O'Daly (student, age7)

"My son, Patrick, has only been attending your school for a short time, but already I see a change in his attitude towards others.  He talks confidently about everything his instructors teach him and enjoys attending his weekly sessions."

-Anonymous Customer Comment Card

“My daughter and I have been members of B.M.A.F. for the past year.  She trains twice a week at the club and absolutely loves it.  I had tried countless activities with her, but Taekwon-do seemed to be the only one that she would race out the door to get to.  The instructors have a very child friendly attitude in their methods of teaching and balance the ethos of Taekwon-do with having gun (as every child should) very well.  I can honestly say my daughter feels safe, secure, and most importantly happy while at her classes.  As for myself, being a mother of four, I love the training sessions.  I feel that this is my time and I only have to focus on myself for that hour (which makes a change).  I find the classes full of enthusiasm and are always changing so getting bored isn’t an option.  My daughter and I practice together with her teaching me rather than the other way round.  It’s nice to share something together.  I would recommend it to any age group and I feel it has definitely added a breath of fresh air to my life.

Joanne Potter (mother & student)

"My name is Majella McCarthy, my daughter Leah Daniels (5 years old) started Taekwon-do 4 weeks ago but I can already see an improvement in her. I think the most obvious one is her energy levels, she was always a very tired child but Taekwon-do seems to have increased her stamina and energy. It's great to see her running around with her friends instead of sitting in front of the T.V. "

Majella McCarthy (parent of Lil' Dragon)

"I have always been interested in martial arts ever since I was a young child, it was through my uncle how I got I got involved in it first day.  When I moved to Ennis I was looking for a martial arts school for quite awhile and then I saw a poster on a shop window advertising B.M.A.F.  Joining B.M.A.F. and starting Taekwon-do training was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  Since I started Taekwon-do training I feel that I focus alot more on a healthy way of living, I watch what I eat and drink, I also feel that my fitness levels and flexibility have increased, basically I feel great.  I would recommend Taekwon-do training to anyone.  It is great begin part of a team where everyones' common interest is martial arts.  I love when a team of us head off and compete in tournaments, there is always a great buzz at them.  Although I am always very nervous before a tournament, I feel great after competing.  I also like grading, progressing in Taekwon-do and moving forward, its a great sense of acheivement.  I think Taekwon-do is a great way of life, its good for the mind, body soul.  I think Taekwon-do will always be a part of my life.  I have made alot of good friends since I joined B.M.A.F.  I think B.M.A.F. is one of the best run and state of the art martial arts facility."

- Pragasen Morrissey (adult student)

"Dear Conor and Sarah, Your classes have made a big difference in my life. They are enjoyable in a number of ways. Firstly, learning the art of Taekwon-do was something i've always wanted to do, i checked the internet and came across your website. I spoke with Ann (who is also in the class) and she expressed a similar interest. We joined that week. Secondly the physical changes are also noticeable. Ann has said that she has lost weight and i personally feel more toned and can see my flexibility improving with each class.

With both interaction from you the instructor and with more advanced members members i feel i am learning more at each class. Everyone is very helpful and always willing to teach us. When I feel i have done a particularly good class i always feel much better about myself and you are always there with encouraging words. I would now feel therefore, if i didn't have these classes in my life, i would be missing out on something great."

Mary Graham (adult student)

“…Cian loves it and gains great discipline & fun.”

-Catherine O’Donovan, mother of Tiny Tiger

“Excellent instruction.  Great fitness work, and very professional & disciplined instructors.  An excellent art to learn.”

-David Bailey, age 23

"Connor and Sarah, As you know both my children and I have started training with you. We have been practicing our patterns together, since we are all grading next week.  It gives us something else to do as a family.  Emily has already seen a marked improvement in her upper body strength. She has become much more confident in herself especially after winning first place in her age group at the First Kicks Tournament. This is our second year living here in Ireland and she was having doubts about fitting in. As all the local teams are very competitive and allow only the "good" kids to play the whole game. They don't give a chance for everyone to develop their

abilities. The both of you encourage everyone to do their very best and instill self esteem to all your members. Justin and Emily feel very comfortable coming to class. There is always a smile, a joke or a word of encouragement to greet them as they enter the Dojang.  As for myself, I have regained my strength and fitness. I have also gained a lot more confidence in my abilities. Believe it or not the stronger I get the more feminine I feel. I have lost 16 pounds since I started training with you in September and I feel fantastic. Underneath all my jokes and boldness was a person who needed a confidence boost. You guys have given me that boost. It is also fun to give you a hard time Sarah.I really appreciate the professionalism the two of you project as you instruct class. It is also a comfort to know that the mats and equipment are cleaned on a regular basis.  Thank You"

Carol, Emily and Justin Nolan (Adult, Junior, and Tiny Tiger)

“Great for fitness & agility”.

-Ruairí O’Cualaín, age 38

“Overall I am delighted with the experience so far.  I have lost one stone in weight since starting up three months ago, and I intend to keep it up for as long as possible.  My only regret is not taking up Taekwon-do years ago.  Thank you.”

-Noel Cleary, age 26

"Dear Sarah & Conor, I am most grateful for the opportunity to reply to your request and to compliment you both on a job well done. My son is Christian Malone. He was glued to the computer/playstation and the TV. We had an awful job trying to convince him that he needed to get some sort of exercise to keep healthy and keep fit. With a lot of encouragement he located your club on the ennis web pages. He went to the first lesson less than happy but came home a different child. He couldn't wait to go back and now almost 3 months down the line he is up and ready to go to his Sat. class by 9.00am. There is no lounging in bed. Things have even got better in the past few weeks, he realised that he had lost weight and has now decided to help himself be a better tae kwon do student, he is attending Teen Gym in the Ennis Swimming Pool. Despite his reservations about the competition last Sunday week he enjoyed himself and came home happy. He is now looking forward and preparing for his first grading.

I would like to thank you both for your hard work and dedication to your job, working with all the young people in your care and also for the regular updates by e-mail to ourselves.. I look forward to Christian being with the club for many years to come."

Julie Malone (parent of Junior member)

"Hi Sarah, My daughter Hannah Meaney started with you in September 2004. She has really enjoyed the classes and I have noticed that her ability to focus and listen has improved. She has always been very sporty and enjoys physical challenges and the classes have been a good positive environment for her to be in. The Tournament on Sunday was very well run and she enjoyed the competitiveness of the event. We will be enrolling her for a second term. "

Sharon Meaney(parent of Lil' Dragon)

"Dear Conor & Sarah, Thanks for the opportunity to make comment, we can definitely say that we have noticed an improvement in Conor's self confidence. He has also stated that he is making friends at the classes. It is important for him to realise that school isn't his only source of friends. Conor goes to a country school so this is doubly important as the class sizes are quite small! Concentration levels seem to have improved too. This is vital for Conor as he is dyslexic and finds it hard to concentrate for extended periods. It also helps him with his physical coordination which often also suffers through dyslexia. I would also like to congratulate you both on the fantastic facility you provide and the invaluable encouragement given to the children. The greatest compliment of all is that Conor looks forward to going every week. Thank you and best wishes for the new year."

Edward Grace (parent of Junior)

"Excellent classes, professional instructors, no punches pulled!"

-David Johnston, age 36

“I am finding the classes a really rewarding, exciting experience.  I am thoroughly impressed and delighted with the professionalism and manner of the instructors.  I find it challenging and rewarding and my interest in Taekwon-do has increased a lot since joining.”

-Sean O’Connell, age 46

"I have two children in the beginners class and I also take the fighting women's class myself. the children love the exercise and they really enjoy the class. They have made new friends and love wearing their new suits. They also like the teaching methods and often comment that Sarah or Conor never get cross even if they get something wrong!!!!!!!!!!! The fighting women's class is very good. I feel that Sara has a better understanding of women when she is teaching the class and she makes us work on the areas that are most in need of attention. With Conor I feel like i am in a Teakwon-do class. The warm up exercises and the punching and kicking would be great if i wanted to go for a grading but they are not so interesting when taken out of context. Also when i sign up for 12 classes, i would love the option of taking two a week for six weeks. thats it. Keep up the good work ."

Finoula Reidy (adult student & mother of Junior members)

"I find Taekwon-do classes are great for Keith's confidence.  Group involvement is great.  Discipline within the group is brilliant.  Keith is a quiet boy and I find this great for his confidence.  Also lovely to receive cards when a child is out sick.  It keeps them involved and let's them know they've been missed."

-Martina Guthrie (mother)

"Cormac has gained confidence and his fitness has improved.  He looks forward to class every week.  At present he is not involved with any other clubs and is very proud to be part of Banner Martial Arts.  I am delighted he has found a healthy outlet, and is meeting new people and having a new experience."

-Deirdre Larkin (mother)

"Both Bridget and Alice have come on in leaps and bounds at the new training centre.  They feel part of a team.  Taekwon-do has been a part of their lives for so long that they don't even question going to it.  Everything is brilliant!"

-Marie O'Brien (mother)

"Ten months ago myself and the children joined Taekwon-do; for myself as an activity for fitness, and for my children as a sport that I hoped they would enjoy.

The goals that Taekwon-do sets, by way of belts and techniques, have motivated and encouraged the children to achieve - and I have noticed a definite increase in the children's confidence in their own ability and skills.  Teakwon-do has been great for increasing agility and fitness levels.  It has become and activity we can practice together.  The children spend a lot of time helping and showing each other techniques they have learned in class (in a non-aggressive way), so it has been a great way to channel their energy!"

-Simone Hepburn (mother & adult student)
